Holmium laser and pneumatic lithotripsy in the treatment of ureteral calculi

Objective To analyze the efficacy of holmium laser and pneumatic lithotripsy in the treatment of ureteral calculi.Methods From January 2009 to June 2010,155 patients with ureteral calculi were randomly divided into two groups,77 cases in holmium laser group and 78 cases in pneumatic group.Post-operative evaluation of all patients with a broken two groups of stone and statistical success rate of surgical time,blood loss and hospital stay,and complications were analyzed.Results The incidence of complications between the two groups was not significant,The successful rate in holmium laser lithotripsy group was higher than that in pneumatic group,and the stone free rate was no significant difference between the two groups.Holmium laser operative time in holmium laser lithotripsy group was significantly longer than that in pneumatic group,and blood loss in holmium laser lithotripsy group was significantly less than that in the pneumatic group.The number of days in hospital between the two groups was not significant.Conclusion The holmium laser lithotripsy is better than pneumatic lithotripsy,and holmium laser lithotripsy is a safe and efficient way to treat ureteral the upper stone.
