Abstract
AIM To compare the short term clinical efficacy and safety of ziprasidone and perphenazine in the treatment of schizophrenia.METHODS Ninety-two schizophrenia patients were divided into ziprasidone group(treated with ziprasidone)and perphenazine group(treated with perphenazine). The two groups were followed up for 6 wk.With positive and negative symptoms score(PANSS)and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS),and simultaneously evaluaed the efficacy and adverse reactions from baseline and at wk 2,4, 6,respectively.RESULTS Altogether 91 out of 92 schizophrenia patients coincided the fulfillment of analysis (ziprasidone group 46,perphenazine group 45).By the end 6 wk treatment, the scores of PANSS,positive symptom score, negative symptom score, and psychopathologic symptom score of ziprasidone group were(51±s 8),(16±3),(12.0±2.0)and(22±6)vs(78±5),(30.0±2.9),(19.9±1.3)and(29±4)of those in comparing with baseline, respectively;providing obvious significant differences(P0.01).The general efficacy of ziprasidone group was equivalent to perphenazine group but regarding the effect for improvement of negative symptom score, the difference with perphenazine group showed conspicuous significance (P0.05).During 6 wk observation, ziprasidone group revealed less effect on ECG and hepatic function and also no significant changes with body weight and menstruation;and still more with good tolerance, CONCLUSION Ziprasidone is equivalent to perphenazine in treating schizophrenia in genegal but with quick up start effect on negative symptomatic improvement, more safety and less adverse reactions.
