Study on Ecological Impact of a Project by Total Ecological Footprint

Ecological Footprint is a new measurement of sustainable development. The theory and calculation method of ecological footprint are briefly introduced. The researches and applications of this method on the domestic and overseas are analyzed. On the basis of the shortage in application, the concept of pollution ecological footprint, consume ecological footprint and total ecological footprint that is the synthetic ecological footprint are presented. Then, the new project of total ecological footprint assessment framework is expatiated which lists the calculation category of consume and pollution ecological footprint of a project. According to the example of Water Transportation from South to North Project influence on the ecological deficit of Xiangfan, the calculated result of total ecological footprint proves that the method of ecological footprint is more complete and reasonable.
