Two Basic Problems in Modern Theory of Names

Abstract

Disputes about names since modern logic are between Descriptivist Theory of Names and Causal theory of Names. Searle is inconsiderately regarded as one who holds former theory. However, Searle should be given more attention because he distinguish the two problems to which modern theory of names must reply. With the basis of this, the main thread of modern theory of names can be grasped by discussing advantages and disadvantages of those two theories.
