Comparison of therapeutic effects between trabeculectomy and non-penetrating trabeculectomy in patients with primary open angle glaucoma

Objective To compare the therapeutic effects in patients with primary open angle glaucoma between trabeculectomy and non-penetrating trabeculectomy.Methods 12 patients(24 eyes) with similar visual acuity,intraocular pressure(IOP),and visual fields injuries were selected,one of the eye was operated with trabeculectomy while the other with nonpenetrating trabeculectomy.Postoperative IOP,the condition of anterior chamber and aqeous were observed and analyzed to evaluate the therapeutic effects.Results The average postoperative IOP with trabeculectomy were lower than those with non-penetrating trabeculectomy,but there was no significant difference analyzed with t-test.The postoperative complications of non-penetrating trabeculectomy were less than trabeculectomy.Conclusion Non-penetrating trabeculectomy is an effective method to treat the open angle glaucoma.
