Abstract

Objective:To study the efficacy and safety of olanzapine and risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia.Method:60 patients were randomly assigned to olanzapine group or risperidone group respectively for 8 weeks. The positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS)and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)were used to measure the efficacy and side effects. Results:There were no significant differences in the effects between two groups. The main side effects of olanzapine were drowsiness and increase of body weight, and those of resperidone were extrapyramidal side effects and insomina. Conclusion:Both olanzapine and risperidone are safe and effective atypical antipsychotics for treating schizophrenia, which can be selected on the basis of the status of the patients.
