Abstract

Objective To evaluate the relationship between the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the clinicopathologic characteristics in esophageal squamous carcinoma. Methods The expression of VEGF was determined in 74 esophageal squamous carcinoma samples in high incidenced location by avidin biotin peroxidase complex(ABC) method. Results The positive rate of VEGF protein expression was 60.8%(45/74),the immunostaining of VEGF protein showed significant relationship existed between positive expression of VEGF protein and proliferation, infiltration, metastasis of lymphaden(P0.05).The heterogeneity of VEGF protein expression in esophageal squamous carcinoma was observed. Conclusions Expression of VEGF protein play a significant role in proliferation, infiltration and metastasis in esophageal squamous carcinoma.
