Effects of Low Temperature Freezing Conditions on Seed Germination of Maize

Abstract

The effects seed water content,freezing temperature and time on the seed germination of maize were studied.The results showed that the antifreezing ability of Zong 3 was the best,and that of 478 was the worst.With low temperature freezing,the germination was lower when the seed water content was higher than 19%,the freezing had little effect on germination within 12 hours,and influenced the germination below-5 ℃ over 24 hours,and the seed germination decreased with time prolonged and temperature drop.
