Abstract

Discussions about the nature of language have never stopped.The proposal of speech act theory is a breakthrough.This article describes Austin's and Searle's speech act theory,systematically expounds the meaning and value of Austin's speech act theory and Searle's development of Austin's theory.Finally,it sums up the important meaning of speech act theory in linguistic research.
