Abstract

Shoot-tips of taro (Colocasia exculenta Schott.) were used as explants in tissue culture for rapid propagation of the plant. Of the three cytokinins studied (BA, ZT and KT), BA proved to be the best for bud induction. The optimum medium for bud regeneration was MS + BA 3.0~4.5 mg/L + NAA 0.2 mg/L. Optimization experiment for bud proliferation showed that MS + BA 4.0 mg/L + NAA 0.2 mg/L gave the highest propagation coefficient (5.9) after half-month culture. The optimum medium for bud rooting was MS supplemented with NAA 0.2 mg/L.
