DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTERISTIC AGRICUTURE IN HUNAN

Characteristic agriculture is now an inevitable option under the conditions of agricultural commercialization, marketization and socialization in the world, it is also one of the important channels to promote the agricultural structural optimization in China. Hunan is superior in development of characteristic agriculture with its good natural ecological environment, relatively favorable socio-economic conditions, rich agricultural technical personnel, and certain foundation for characteristic agriculture. However, the present situation of the agriculture is not satisfactory. The main problems are decentralized distribution, small production scale, less developed processing industry, low level of sales, and lack of famous brand products. To change Hunan into a strong agricultural province, the development of regional characteristic agriculture should be accelerated. For that purpose, the distribution of the agriculture should be adjusted, a strategy of systematic engineering be adopted, the structure of agricultural products be optimized, the agricultural service system be reinforced, and the service function of the government be enhanced.
