Abstract

The idea of love (Ai) or benevolence (Ren) is a founding idea in Confucianism, that is to say, both metaphysics and physics (epistemology and ethics) is founded on it, because as life-emotion, love is appearing of life or existence (Sein). Then the idea of love is an original idea, i.e. as life-emotion, love belongs to life-source as existence itself.
