Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of MR perfusion weighted imaging (PWI) in preoperative assessment of histopathologic grade of gliomas. Methods PWI were performed in 26 patients with histologically verified gliomas. The perfusion data were deconvoluted to get a color map of CBV and CBF. The maximal rCBV and rCBF of each lesion was correlated with histopathologic grading of gliomas.ResultsThe rCBV and rCBF in grade Ⅰ~Ⅱ gliomas were 0.72~4.26 and 0.82~2.89 respectively, with a mean of 2.10±1.18 and 1.52±0.65. The rCBV and rCBF in grade Ⅲ~Ⅳ gliomas varied from 0.89~10.02 and 1.50~6.04 with a mean 5.23±1.86 and 4.81±2.60. The difference in rCBV and rCBF was statistically significant between grade Ⅰ~Ⅱ and Ⅲ~Ⅳ gliomas (student t test ,Ρ0.01).There was a strong correlation between rCBV and rCBF (spearman’s rank correlation coefficient=0.712,Ρ0.01). Conclusion MR perfusion weighted imaging is very useful in preoperative predicting tumor grade of gliomas.
