Abstract

The diumal salinity data measured plesiochronously in the Changjiang River Estuary and its adjacent sea area respectively at neap tide and at spring in July,November 2005 and May 2006 are used to analyze and to learn the temporal and spatial variation of salinity in the studied waters. It is shown from the analysis results that the plane distribution of salinity in this area is that the lowest salinity is located at Changjiang River Estuary and Hangzhou Bay,becoming higher toward the open sea,the south and the north where a higher slainity gradients are.The vertical salinity difference is very obvious. The salinity is lower in the upper water layer and higher in the bottom water layer with a great temporal and spatial variations. In addition, the salinity in the studied areas has obvious monthly and seasonal variations.
