Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of epithelial growth factor receptor(EGFR) protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC),and to evaluate their prognostic signification. Methods: The expression of EGFR protein in 80 ESCC and 80 normal esophageal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry staining(SP).The logrank test and Cox proportional hazards analysis were used to analyze the prognosis of ESCC.Results: The positive expression rate of EGFR protein in 80 ESCC and 80 normal esophageal tissues were 61.3% and27.5%,respectively.The expression of EGFR protein in the ESCC was much higher than that in normal esophageal tissues(P0.05).The expression of EGFR protein was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis and TNM staging(every P0.05).There were no correlation between the expression of EGFR protein and Sex,age and histological grade(every P0.05).The lymph node metastasis,TNM staging and the expression of EGFR protein were independent prognostic factors statistically. Conclusion: EGFR protein higherly expressed in ESCC and might play an important role in the development, invasion and metastasis of ESCC.It might be used as the prognostic factor.
