Abstract
Diethyl fumarate was synthesized with fumaric and alcohol as raw materials and sodium acid sulfate as catalyst. The optimum esterification conditions were that the reaction temperature was 130℃, molar ratio of alcohol to fumaric acid was 4, the reaction time was 6 h, and the amount of sodium acid sulfate was 5% by weight of fumaric acid. The yield was 93.5%. The method has the advantage of easy operation, good yield, and the catalyst could be reused.
