Abstract

In order to study the effect of drought and extraneous superoxide dismutase(SOD),an experiment was conducted with Bonsai Lettuce as materials. The results showed that the SOD and peroxide dismutase(POD) first increased then decreased under drought stress, and extraneous source SOD could increase SOD activities and decrease POD activities. The content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and proline(Pro) increased, and the extraneous SOD alleviated the rising trend of MDA and Pro under the serious drought condition.Drought condition increased the chlorophyll a/b ratio, and the extraneous SOD made it decrease and come near to the control level. The drought condition made water potential decrease early, while the extraneous SOD delayed this decline. This showed that the extraneous SOD alleviated the drought stress, made physiological index improve, and could increase drought resistance.
