Factors Affecting the Quality of Bone Marrow Wspiration

Objective:To determine the factors affecting the quality of the bone marrow aspirationg by retrospective analyzing the bone marrow smears.Methods: A standard procedure in every bone marrow aspirations was used.Suboptimal smears were divided into technical or no technical reasons.For the same diseases,comparing the blood routine index of suboptimal smears and optimal smears.Results: Suboptimal smears from patients with multiple myeloma,idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and aplastic anemia were the most commonly for no technical reasons.Suboptimal smears had higher RBC count and hemoglobin level and lower platelet count in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome: refractroy anemia.Conclusion:Platelet count isn't the main factor affecting the quality of bone marrow aspiration.We could estimate the development of the diseases by the change of blood RBC count and hemoglobin level.WBC count would not affecting the quality of bone marrow aspiration in normal or subnormal level.
