A comparative study on efficacy of ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy and pneumatic lithotripsy in treatment of ureteral calculi

Objective To explore the best method for treatment of ureteral calculi under ureteroscopy.Methods The clinical data of 200 cases of ureteral calculi receiving holmium laser lithotripsy(HL) or pneumatic lithotripsy(PL) in this hospital during February 2008 to February 2011 were retrospectively analyzed,and the therapeutic results were compared between these two groups.Results The successful rate,operating time,duration of hospitalization,discharge time of broken stones and other aspects in patients of HL group were better than those of patients in PL group.Conclusion In clinical practice,many factors such as status of ureteral calculi,technical level of operators and equipment of the hospital etc.should be considered for the choice of procedures for operation.
