Abstract

Objective To explore the distribution of interleukin-6(IL-6)gene-597G/A and-572C/G polymorphisms and its effect on acute coronary syndromes(ACS). Methods IL-(6-597)G/A and-572C/G polymorphisms were genotyped in 157 ACS patients and 168 healthy adults by PCR-RFLP method. Results There was only-597GG genotype in two groups.-572CC、CG and GG genotype frequency were 51.59%、42.68%、5.73%;63.10%、35.71%、1.19% in ACS patients and control group,respectively.-572 GG genotype and G allele were more frequent in patients than in controls(P0.02).Compared with CC genotype, odds ratio(OR) for ACS was 1.60(95% CI:1.03~2.50,P0.02) for CG+GG genotype. After adjusting for classical risk factors, the effect remained statistically significant(95%CI:1.01~2.91,P0.05).There was no correlation between-572C/G polymorphism and the extent of coronary lesion(P0.05).Conclusion There was no IL-6/-597G/A polymorphism, but there was-572C/G polymorphism in Chinese Hans population. The latter may be a possible genetic susceptibility factor for ACS in Chinese Hans population.
