Abstract
Objective To discuss the methods of gathering sputum specimens in children with pneumonia for increasing the positive rate of sputum culture and reducing the taking rate of returning specimens. Methods 384 hospitalized babies and infants with pneumonia selected randomly were divided into two groups. The experimental group used the methods of sputum excretion by sputum elimination machine after chymotrypsin spray or percussion on back to take sputum specimens, the control group used the methods of expectoration after gargling or sputum excretion stimulated to take sputum specimens. Results The returning rate of sputum specimens in experimental group was lower obviously than the control group(P 0.01);the positive rate of sputum culture was higher obviously than the control group(P 0.01) ,there was significance difference. Conclusion Using the sputum suction methods to take sputum specimens in children with pneumonia can greatly improve the positive rate of pathogens, reduce the hassle of re-samples left and reduce pain in children.
