Comparative study of transurethral resection of prostate and photoselective vaporization of prostate in treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective To evaluate the recent effects of transurethral resection of prostate(TURP) and photoselective vaporization of prostate(PVP).Methods 122 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) were non-randomly divided into two groups and underwent PVP and TURP separately.Operative time,blood loss during operation,recent effect and complications of the two surgical methods were compared.Results IPSS,QOL,the mean Qmax and PVR were significantly improved,compared with preoperative data(P0.05).Average blood loss,indwelling catheterization time and short-term complication rate in PVP group were significant less than those in TURP group(P0.01).Conclusions The recent effects of TURP and PVP in treatment of BPH(60 g)are similar,but PVP has advantages of less bleeding,shorter catheterization time and fewer complications.
