Abstract

In this paper, the hydrodynamics of Yangtze River Estuary was modeled based on ECOMSED.Results show that the model reveals the characteristics of hydrodynamics of the estuary well and can be applied to realism.A simulation was conducted to a flood in July 2010 for illuminating how it affects the hydrodynamic characteristics of Yangtze River estuary. The results showed that the impoundment of Three Gorges Project leads to a significant decreasing of flow rate around Yangtze River Estuary, which in turn affects the transportation of sediment and diffusion of waste water.Because of reducing of discharge upstream due to the effect of Three Gorges Project impounding, the diffusion of 1000 degree of waste water dilution from three drainages in Shanghai is deteriorated.
