Abstract
The adsorption behavior of (R)-(-)-mandelic acid in fermentation broth on several anion-exchange resins was studied. Resin H401was chosen to separate mandelic acid due to its high ion exchange capacity and low adsorption rate for impurities. The optimum conditions for dynamic adsorption were pH 6.0 -6.5 at flow velocity of 1.0 BV/h. The optimum elution was 1% HCl at flow velocity of 0.5 BV/h. Under the optimal conditions, the recovery of (R)-mandelic acid from fermentation broth achieved 95%. The purity of recovered (R)-(-)-mandelic acid in the final eluent was over 95% and its enantiomeric excess value reached to 98.5%.
