Abstract
The socialist market economy has a threefold meaning, which not only shows the different perspective and methods of looking at the subject, but is also an inevitable product of the development and deepening of the reform of the Chinese economic system in over 20 years in the past. Like any field, the field of the socialist market economy is the result of the constant abstraction of the object of thinking. The opposition, co-existence, struggle and inter-infiltration between the market mechanism and the system of the planned economy give rise to the system of the socialist market economy while opposition, co-￣existence, struggle and inter-infiltration between the system of the socialist market economy and the integrated and unified socialist relations of production of public ownership give rise to the integrated but pluralistic socialist market economy. Thus the socialist market economy has become the first great multi-fold field of the socialist political economics which consists of the economic base, economic system and economic mechanism.
