Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the extended-spectrum β-lactamase(ESBLs)producing Escherichia coli strains from urine samples and identify the risk factors for the urinary tract infection caused by ESBLs-producing E.coli strains.METHODS E.coli isolated from urine samples was retrospectively analyzed. The ESBLs-producing group and the Non ESBLs-producing group were named depending on the production of the ESBLs and the risk factors for urinary tract infection caused by ESBLs-producing strains were analyzed with logistic regression.RESULTS A total of 153 strains of E.coli were isolated from urine samples from Jan to Dec 2009,there were 86(56.2%) non ESBLs-producing strains and 67(43.8%) ESBLs-producing strains. The drug resistant rate of ESBLs-producing strains to the commonly used antibiotics was significantly higher than that of non ESBLs-producing strains.logistic regression analysis showed that the longer hospitalizations prior to infection, urinary catheter and previous use of the third generation cephalosporins were the independent risk factors of urinary tract infection caused by ESBLs-producing E.coli.CONCLUSION The detection rate of ESBLs-producing E.coli from urinary tract is high. The urinary tract infection caused by ESBLs-producing strains usually lead to longer hospitalizations, urinary catheter intubation and previous use of the third generation of cephalosporins.
