Abstract
A new species belonging to Crossostoma Sauvage, 1878 is describes in this paper. The new species was collected from Zhejiang, China, and named as Crossostoma faaciolatus.Crossostoma fasciolatus sp. nov. (Figs.1-2)Description of holotype(in mm). No.8380338, total length 111 and body length 90, collected from a rivulet in Wuyanling Natural Resources, Tiashun County, Zhejiang, China, in Aug. 1983. The location belongs to Liguang Rivulet of Feiyun River system. The holotype is deposited in the Zhejiang Museum of Natural History, Hangzhou, China. D.iii-7-8; A. ii-5; P. I-14; V. I-8. Scales in L. 90-94. Vertebrae 4+35.Depth of body in standard body length 6.8(6.3-7.3), width of body 6.3(5.6-6.6), length of head 4.0(3.8-4.2), length of caudal peduncle 9.2(8.2-10.0), depth of caudal peduncle 8.5(8.1-9.1). Depth of head in head length 2.0(1.9-2.0), width of head 1.4(1.3-1.4), length of snout 2.0(1.8-2.1), diameter of eye 8.4(7.6-9.2), width of interorbital space 2.9(2.7-3.0). Depth of caudal peduncle in length of caudal peduncle 0.9(0.9-1.0). Width of mouth in width of head 2.4(2.3-2.6). Body elongate, subcylindrical and compressed posteriorly. Head depressed. Tip of snout broadly rounded, the edge is thin. Rostral fold specialized to sub-rostral barbell, total number 13; papillary on posterior-lateral of lower lip verruca-liked. Rostral barbell arranged in 1 row, base of barbell always connected to the rostral fold. Scales small, about 90-94 in the lateral line; head naked. Dorsal fin origin in advance of ventrals, much nearer to base of caudal than tip of snout. Body light-brown color in formalin. The new species differs from Crossostoma davidi (Sauvage, 1878) in the following aspects: 1) with 18-22 bar anomalistic gray-brownish stripe on body sides; 2) naked area in abdomen exceed to behind middle point between origin of pectoral to ventral fin; 3) with unconspicuous brown spot on nape; 4) length of snout bigger than basilar length of dorsal fin. The new species was known to be distributed in Feiyun River, Taishun County, Zhejiang, China.
