Clinical observation of the three dimensional conformal radiation therapy(3D-CRT) concurrently combined with chemotherapy for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects of the three dimensional conformal radiation therapy(3D-CRT) concurrently combined with chemotherapy for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods 65 patients were randomly divided into chemoradiotherapy group(n=33) and radiotherapy group(n=32).All patients were treated with the 3D-CRT.The patients in chemoradiotherapy group were also given chemotherapy at the 1st week radiotherapy of each every-3-week cycle.The efficacy and side effects were observed and compared.Results The complete response rate(CR) and partly response rate(PR) were 18.2% and 69.7% in chemoradiotherapy group,and 6.3% and 50.0% in radiotherapy group,respectively,with significant differences between two groups(P0.05).The 1-,2-year survival rates were 69.7% and 48.5% in chemoradiotherapy group,and 65.6% and 28.1% in radiotherapy group,respectively,with significant difference in 2-year survival rates between two groups(P0.05) while without significant differences in 1-year survival rate between two groups(P0.05).The complications of leukopenia,nause and vomiting were more common in chemoradiotherapy group than in radiotherapy group(P0.05).The 3D-CRT concurrently combined with chemotherapy for locally advanced NSCLC could be more effective with higher side effects than the 3D-CRT only.
