A follow-up outcome of 102 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis caused by HP infection for 10 years

OBJECTIVE To investigate the long-term outcome of chronic atrophic gastritis caused by HP infection,and the relationship between CAG with HP infection and gastric cancer.METHODS A follow up study was applied for the 102 patients with CAG caused by HP infection;which were diagnosed with gastroscopy and pathological changes and HP detection,the period was 10 years.RESULTS There were 5 patients in 102 patients reversed to be chronic superficial gastritis.The different alleviations were seen in 36 patients;The areas of atropy of 23 patients enlarged in different degrees,and the degrees of atrophy and intestinal metaplasia of them increased to some extent.There were 35 in 102 patients who became stable;And there were only 3 in 102 patients who developed gastro-cancer finally.CONCLUSION There is a significance for the chronic atropic gastritis caused by HP infection especially for those who companied with intestinal metaplasia,atypical hyperplasia.A fixed period follow-up and prevention and treatment,including eradication of HP infection,are helpful in early diagnosis of gastric cancer.
