Application of a modified Seldinger technique for PICC insertion in pediatric patients

Ninety-eight pediatric patients who were catheterized difficultly with traditional PICC insertion method due to obesity or invisible veins were recruited in this study.A modified Seldinger technique without ultra sound guide was applied for 3-and 4-French peripherally inserted central venous catheters.The catheters were safely inserted into peripheral veins in all patients.The modified Seldinger technique can reduce the patients' pain and anxiety,and a smaller peripheral venous catheter is more acceptable for pediatric patients.
