Ancient Greek Archetype of the Female Characters in Shakespeare's Four Tragedies

Mythology is the origin of literature.Shakespeare was deeply influenced by ancient Greek culture.The female characters in his four tragedies not only originated from real life but also emerged from the womb of ancient Greek mythology.In this way,they displace it.In the process of displacement,something original is reserved,while new components are evolved that reflect the new spirit of a new epoch,thus embodying Shakespeare's unique imagination of the theatrical art.By selecting five typical female characters,this paper discusses how ancient Greek mythological archetype emerges and immerges in Shakespeare's four tragic plays.
