The Conflict Between Soul and Flesh and the Separate World——On the Contradictory Cultural Connotation in Cao Nai-qian's Novels

In his novels,Cao Nai-qian is full of too much snetiment on the world of Yanbei,Shanxi.However,this world is regarded as a separate space rather than the clean land.The vague reference of the time leads the interpretation of the novels to polysemy.Though he simplifies the local-colour world into the theme of eating and sex,actually,his novels reflect his psychological experience of inablity of grasping reality and history.However,in the description of the life of eating and sex,he presents the separation of soul and flesh.My attention to spirit corresponds to local farmers' hunger for naked sex,which expresses the profound contradition and anxiety behind the writer.Therefore,he can be called a real literati rather than a real bumpkin.Actually,the contraditon and conflict presented in the world of the novels is the presentation of the writer's inner emotion experience and mental separation.
