Abstract

The American social and economic prosperity and new political system inspired Sun Yat-sen to establish a democratic republic in China modeling after the United States,but he did not get any sympathy and support from the American authorities.He then turned to the Soviet Union,but continued to harbor some envy of and admiration for the United States.The democratic republican form of government Sun Yat-sen yearned for did not come true in China,but his understanding of the US had profound impact on China’s modernization process.
