Observations on the Therapeutic Effect of Abdominal Acupuncture on Sciatica

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of abdominal acupuncture on sciatica.Methods One hundred and twenty outpatients diagnosed exactly with sciatica were randomly allocated to an abdominal acupuncture(treatment)group of 60 cases and a conventional acupuncture(control)group of 60 cases.The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated using the Simplified Mcgill Pain Questionnaire in the two groups after treatment.Results Both abdominal acupuncture and conventional acupuncture relieved the pain obviously in the sciatica patients.There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference(P0.05).The analgesic effect was more marked in the treatment group of sciatica patients(P0.05).Conclusion Abdominal acupuncture has a better analgesic effect than conventional acupuncture in treating sciatica patients.
