Abstract
[Objective] To discuss the effect of nickel stress on germination and seedling growth of maize.[Method] By employing hydroponic culture, the germination rate, root length and shoot length of maize were determined.[Result] The germination of maize seed was delayed when treating with nickel of high concentration(50 and 100 mg/L),and all the seeds germinated in the 4th day after being sowed. There was a negative correlation between root length, shoot length and concentration of nickel(P0.05).Effect order of nickel on each growth index was determined to be root shoot seed germination rate.[Conclusion] Root growth of maize is the main indicator that reflects the nickel toxicity to maize.
