CT diagnosis of non-invasive fungal maxillary sinusitis

Objective To analyse the CT characteristcs of noninvasive fungal maxillary sinusitis in order to increase diagnostic accuracy of fungal sinusitises.Methods CT findings in 50 cases of noninvasive fungal maxillary sinusitis proved by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analysed.Results Of the 50 cases,43 cases had involvement of unilateral maxillary sinus,7 cases had unilateral maxillary sinus,ipsilateral ethmoid sinus and nasal cavity involvement.The affected sinuses were filled with soft tissues,in which speckled calcification were seen in 36 cases,bubble image in high density were found in 19 cases.34 cases had changing of the bony maxillary sinus wall and osteosclerosis of nasal sinuses were found in 26 cases and localized bone destruction was found in 24 cases.Conclusion CT findings of noninvasive fungal maxillary sinusitis has characteristic features.CT is a valuable method for diagnosing fungal sinusitises.
