Abstract

Objective To study the effects on cardiac function by intravenously delivering mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) at the early stage of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods Experimental rats were subjected to AMI by left anterior descending artery occlusion. One day after AMI, the isogenic cells were transfused into AMI rats through caudal vein. To evaluate the cardiac function, all rats were performed echocardiography examination;after this, all rats were killed and the hearts were performed histological and immunochemical analysis. Results Contrasted with control group, the cardiac function of MSCs-group had significant improvement three weeks after AMI (P0.05, respectively). Similarly, contrasted with one day after AMI, the cardiac function of MSCs-group had significant improvement (P0.05, respectively). In addition, immunochemical analysis demonstrated that transplanted cells migrated into peri-infarct region. Conclusion One day after MI, intravenously delivered mesenchymal stem cells can migrate into the damaged heart and improve the damaged cardiac function.
