Safety and efficacy observation on Telmisartan for treatment of hypertension with diabetes

Objective: To observe the safety and efficacy of Telmisartan in treatment of hypertension with type 2 diabetes. Methods: 93 cases of hypertension with diabetes were randomly divided into two groups. 47 cases were received Telmisartan 80 mg, once a day, 46 cases were given alone Amlodipine 5 mg, once a day, both using eight weeks. Results: Total effciency were 87.2% ,84.8% in Telmisartan group and Amlodipine group respectively. After the therapy, fasting plasma insulin concentration in the Telmisartan group was significantly lower than that in the Amlodipine group (P0.01). Conclusion: Telmisartan offeres a safe and effective therapy for patients with hypertension with type 2 diabetes.
