Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effects of telmisartan on pulse pressure in aged patient with hypertension.Methods:A total of 90 cases with hypertensive disease were definitely diagnosed according to WHO criterion.In 56 cases were administered telmisartan orally 40~80mg per day for six months;lisinopril treatment of 34 cases used as control .Results:After six months in telmisartan group and lisinopril group the SBP, DBP all decreased significantly,P 0.001,0.01 respectively;PP significantly decreased(P0.01) in telmisartan group.Conclusion:Telmisartan is not only safe and effective in treating hypertension but also decreases pulse pressure. It can protect cardio-cerebro-renal function and be used as an antihypertensive drug in first consideration.
