Abstract

Aim: To determine the serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) and evaluate the severity of coronary artery lesion by coronary angiography in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods:The levels of PAPP-A were measured by ELISA method in 62 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) diagnosed by coronary angiography (CAG), including 42 patients with ACS and 20 stable angina pectoris (SAP) patients, and 14 non-CHD patients excluded by CAG as control. Results: The concentration of PAPP-A in ACS, SAP and the control group was (19.5± 7.8) mIU/L, (8.3±4.7) mIU/L and (7.6±2.7) mIU/L, respectively . There were statistical differences between SAP and ACS group (P0.01) , while there was no statistical difference between SAP and the control group. No correlation between the level of PAPP-A and Jenkins scores was found. Conclusion: Serum PAPP-A can be used as an indicator in diagnosis of ACS.
