Through the analysis on the process of urban reform in historical sites,it is proposed that the current reform of the urban historical city should be the unification of the protection and renewal. The article focuses on Hancheng's old town in Guan Zhong region of Shaanxi province,after a thorough investigation and study,a protection method combining the dot,line,face is pointed out. The historical city renovation should pay attention to the overall cultural development and utilization,and follow the strategy of the combination of protection and harmony. The reform of historical city should prezent an organic unity between protection and regereration,between coordination and symbiosis.
