Research on an Integrated Approach in Foreign Language Teaching

Content-Based Instruction(CBI) and Task-Based Language Teaching(TBLT) occupy dominant positions in the Communicative Language Teaching family respectively and each is known for their greater effectiveness than most other approaches and methods.van Lier believes that TBLT and CBI are inseparable and that the two should be into an organic whole in order to develop students' awareness and autonomy in their studies and to help them acquire the authentic foreign language.In this paper,on the basis of van Lier's viewpoint stated above,coupled with the pertinent beliefs and principles advocated in TBLT and CBI,a discussion is made on the possibility of integrating the resources of TBLT and CBI and of developing an integrated to foreign language teaching.Hopefully, such an approach can help improve foreign language teaching and learning effect in the post-methods era.
