Abstract

Sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus with initial body weight of(40. 00 ± 5. 62) g were stocked into net cages and fed the diets containing selenium methionine at a rate of 0( control group),0. 2,0. 4,0. 6,0. 8,and1. 0 mg / kg for 60 days at water temperature of 13 ℃,p H 8. 1,and a salinity of 27 to evaluate the growth and selenium enrichment in sea cucumber. The results showed that the specific growth rate( SGR),dressed rate( percentage of viscerated body weight),and selenium content in body wall were increased with elevate dietary selenium levels,SGR in body length from initial 0. 11% / d increased to final 0. 34% / d,and SGR in body weight from0. 18% / d increased to 0. 46% / d. The dressed rate was found to be increased from 50. 38% at the beginning of the experiment to 61. 14% at the end of the experiment, the post- boiling dressed rate from 19. 40% to 24. 69% and the dried production from 25. 95% to 30. 88%. The selenium content in body wall was shown to be increased from1. 65 mg / kg to 2. 56 mg / kg. The findings showed that, proper supplementation of methionine selenium significantly improved specific growth rate, dressed rate, and selenium content in body wall of the sea cucumber.
