Abstract
Adult sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus with initial body weight of(45.21±1.21)g were cultured in cages disposed in an indoor tank and fed the diets containing selenium methionine at a rate of 0 mg/kg(control group), 0.2 mg/kg, 0.4 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg,0.8 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg at average water temperature of 13℃, p H8.1, and a salinity of 27 for 60 d when the specific growth rate(SGR)and selenium levels were determined in body walls, intestine and respiratory tree in the adult sea cucumber. The SGR of adult sea cucumber was shown to be positively related with selenium methionine concentrations, the maximum in the sea cucumber fed the diet containing selenium methionine at a rate of 1.0 mg/kg diet. The levels of selenium in body walls, intestine and respiratory tree were increased with increase in the dietary selenium concentrations, the maximal values in the sea cucumber fed the diet containing selenium methionine at a rate of 1.0 mg/kg diet. The order of selenium accumulation level in the tissues of adult sea cucumber was descendantly arranged as: intestinerespiratory treebody wall.
