Abstract

Objective To study the effect of protective ventilation strategy on severe plumonary contusion. Methods 44 patients suffered from pulmonary contusion were divided into two groups:protective ventilation group (n=21);traditional ventilation group(n=23).The tidal volumes in the protective ventilation was 6~8ml/kg,and that in the traditional ventilation group was 12~15ml/kg.The days for ventilator therapy and the morbidity of pulmonary infection and ARDS were compared between the two groups. Results The days for ventilation therapy was obviously shorter in protective ventilation group than that in traditional ventilation groups and the morbidity of pulmonary infection was lower. The morbidity of ARDS was not significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion Protective ventilator therapy for pulmonary contusion could markedly reduce the time for ventilator therapy and lower the morbidity of pulmonary effection.
