Investigation of knowledge about HIV/AIDS among new students in a medical college

Abstract

Objective To understand the current status of knowledge,attitude and practice about HIV/AIDS among new medical students,so as to provide the evidence for developing HIV/AIDS prevention education.Methods A total of 1 500 new college students were randomly sampled and surveyed by questionnaires.Results The mean score of knowledge about AIDS was 7.56,which was poor.Totally 76.30% of students sympathized with the infected HIV persons or AIDS patients,and 83% of students disapproved the antemarital sexual behavior.Conclusions We should strengthen the health education about HIV/AIDS in college students,especially among new students,to improve their knowledge about AIDS and reduce the high risk factors of HIV infection.
