Pronouns in English-Chinese Translation

This paper focuses on English pronouns translation and explores how pronouns affect translation and how to deal with such problems. More attention is paid to pronouns distinctions between Chinese and English languages. The thesis is divided into five parts: Part I view the definition and major functions about translation and pronouns to have a more satisfactory understanding of what is involved in pronouns translation. Part II discusses the possessive pronouns, reflexive pronouns and generic use of personal pronouns to understand pronouns in English-Chinese translation better. Part III pays morn attention to pronouns in English-Chinese translation, the most difficult task of the translator is to understand different meanings of pronoun between Chinese and English. Part IV covers pronouns reference of translation. Part V analyzes pronouns in translation through some examples. Part VI is the conclusion that more attention should be paid to pronouns in English-Chinese translation.
