Status Quo of History Studies in China and Considerations on Their Continuant Advancement

The science of history in China has been flourishing in the past few years, for example, continuous studies in history of the ancient China as the most well-established, most productive and most prosperous area in history study in our country, rather active studies in the history of modern China and increasing scale of study of the history of the People’s Republic of China, to name only a few. Also noticeable is the advancement made in studies of the global history, especially comparative studies between Chinese history and foreign history, which have contributed a large quantity of meaningful results. What is inspiring is the remarkable diversity of approaches and interdisciplinariness of views. Many young promising and potential historians are rising rapidly and an energetic and ambitious youthful team of history study is just taking shape. With the powerful support from the Party and Government, exchanges in history study between China and foreign nations become more and more active and the universalization of history study is playing an indispensable role daily in social life. To keep up the status quo of history study, we must closely follow the principles, that is, first, adhering to Marxism as the guide of study and then developing a fine and sound style of history study.
