Four Ethical Categories by LIANG Shu-ming

Introspection, Focusing on feelings without selfishness, Optimistic attitude to life, Team were four basic ethical categories of Modern Neo-Confucian character LIANG Shu-ming(1893-1988). Introspection meant that an individual used introspection to balance between reality and the ideal. Focusing on feelings without selfishness meant that an individual focused on feelings not interpersonal gains and losses in social intercourse. Optimistic attitude to meant an individual faced life with a carefree state of mind and acted in accordance with objective laws. Team meant Public concept, Discipline habits, The spirit rule of law, Organizational ability civic awareness were necessary for an individual in the collective life. LIANG Shu-ming not only from the perspective of culturology, affirmed the great value of the Confucian ethics, but also established the two lines of inheritance and development for the ethics of Confucian modernization, meanwhile he gave the first response to the objective historical process which Chinese culture's core layer had changed.
