THE MRI APPEARANCE OF ATYPICAL OSTEOMYELITIS

Abstract

Objective To investigate the MRI manifestations of atypical osteomyelitis. Methods A retrospective analysis of MRI signs was done in 27 cases of atypical osteomyelitis. Results The findings were as follows: diverse patching high signal intensity on T1-weighted image was found in long bone or camerapulpi(23 cases);irregular thickening of the cortical bone(16);periosteal reaction(7);soft tissue swelling(grade Ⅰ,9 cases;grade Ⅱ,5 cases;grade Ⅲ,7 cases);abscess-like cysts(9);mass in soft tissue(1) and gas in bone(2). Conclusion MRI is of great value in the diagnosis of atypical osteomyelitis.
